When you hold your first baby in your arms, in an instant you are filled with a love you never fully understood until that moment. And from that moment, your love only grows stronger and deeper for your child. At times you are so overcome with love that it moves you to tears. You watch with awe and amazement as your newborn grows and hits each milestone. You wipe away tears as you change their little wardrobe to the next larger size. You truly believe that you could never love another human as much as you love that child of yours.

And then the day comes that you decide to grow your family by one more. You are excited and nervous all at the same time. You are so excited to meet your new love, but also want to soak in every second with your first while they are still your only. And you cannot help but wonder how you will ever love another as much as your first, asking yourself if you have enough love for two. The answer, I promise you, is that you do. In that first moment that you hold your new love in your arms, every worry will disappear in an instant. You will be flooded with that familiar rush of a love that you know well – your love for your child. Whether the first, second or any number thereafter, you will love each as much as the other.

I love photographing maternity sessions when a mama is expecting her second. It is such a special time for the whole family as they await their newest member. Emily and Ted are preparing to welcome a sibling for their two year old son, Brooks. Brooks is ridiculously adorable and was hamming it up for the camera. He was so loving and gentle to his mama’s belly, giving it kisses and hugs. All traits that are sure to make him the best big brother. The last few images shared here are some of my favorite from Emily’s gallery, as she and Brooks shared the sweetest moments together. Moments that I know Emily will treasure as she soaked in those last moments when she had only one baby to love!
