San Diego family beach photography has my heart! Everyone who knows me, knows I have a love affair with San Diego! I have always been drawn to the ocean and the beach. There is just something so beautiful and calming about it. You can find us at the beach pretty much all the time whether in San Diego or traveling the world. It’s our happy place!
When I first started out as a photographer, I dreaded beach sessions because their is nothing to shade the sun which makes lighting tricky for a photographer. As I learned to embrace and work with the sun, I absolutely LOVE family beach photography!
There are so many gorgeous beaches in San Diego from sweeping sandy beaches to sand dunes to dramatic cliffs. I have a few preferred locations that I tend to shoot at most frequently. We will choose the best beach location for your family when we meet for our pre session consultation to plan and discuss your hopes for your session.
The best time of day to schedule your family portraits is the hour before sunset or hour after sunrise. This is the time of day that is often referred to as the golden hour. And rightfully so, as this is when you get that yummy golden & soft lighting as the sun is starting to set/rise. It provides stunning lighting for portraits! I also love to shoot 5-10 minutes after the sun has set or before the sun has risen to capture the beautiful pastel colors in the ocean and sky.
